Positive Employment is currently recruiting for a Plumber for our client a government organisation in Bedford.

The successful post holder will work within the Building Services team, to carry out all the disciplines of Plumbing work and where necessary legionella testing, to maintain the buildings, public buildings and assets, ensuring the required standard of work is achieved, covering repairs, refurbishments and upgrades.

This role is a temporary contract initially for 3 months with the possibility to extend.

Duties and Responsibilities but not limited to:

  • Report any accidents, near misses or unsafe working practise to the Building Works Team Leader.
  • Use, maintain, clean and store all tools, equipment, vans and first aid boxes etc provided by the organisation in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. Bring to the notice of the Repairs and Maintenance Officer immediately any items which are damaged, unfit for use or need servicing.
  • Carry out associated work in the areas of carpentry, tiling, plastering and decorating as well as your main trade, during peaks and troughs of demand or surplus/shortfall of trade skills.
  • Provide responsive and professional trade skill services. Undertake required plumbing repairs and installations to maintain high levels of professional image, safety security and working condition of the organisation’s property portfolio, and when necessary undertake weekly and monthly Legionella testing & flushing and TMV checks.
  • Ensure allocated, planned maintenance and small repairs are carried out within timescales and to a high standard.
  • Support the team by carrying out minor repairs/works as well as your main trade, working across trades during peaks and troughs of demand or surplus/shortfall of trade skills.
  • Update the Concerto system, operate a PDA to update works status and image upload.

Personal Requirements:

  • Must be qualified to NVQ level 3 in Plumbing or have completed a City & Guilds in Plumbing, have completed an apprenticeship, and have practical experience, preferably in a repairs and maintenance environment, ideally for public buildings.
  • Must have an awareness of legionella and L8 Approved Code of Practice (ACOP).
  • Have completed Asbestos Awareness Training.
  • Be computer literate, have experience in the use of PDA and the ability to operate a PDA and update works status and image upload.  Have a commitment towards training in new software systems.
  • Have a good understanding of building regulations to ensuring compliance with all necessary regulations, standards, and legal responsibilities relating to repair work and new works compliance.
  • Must hold a full UK driving licence and be comfortable driving a council works vehicle.

Working Hours: 37hrs / 9:00am – 17:00pm / Monday – Friday

Pay: £20.00 per hr

Please note this role is within the scope of IR35.
